Overview

During the SBS course, many students have their desire to know more stirred up.  Suddenly, history, theology, and worldview become subjects that are alive and relevant.  Unfortunately, there just isn't much time to do extra reading during the SBS.  To satisfy this thirst for knowledge, Dr. Ron Smith developed a Directed Reading Course specifically designed for the SBS.   The course seeks to expose the student to a breadth of historical Biblical interpretation, Church history, and Biblical worldview. During the course, the student will read a large volume of reference literature (about 100 pages per day, 6 days a week for 12 weeks) from a pre-selected list determined by the course adviser.

With the knowledge the student gains in the course, their teaching, preaching, and personal understanding will be deeper and more insightful.  The course can be taken on location (at the Montana, King's Lodge England, or Taipei, Taiwan YWAM bases), or can be done through correspondence.  There are weekly discussions with the course adviser, as well as a system of collecting the material that will be helpful for future reference.

The Directed Reading Course is recommended for students pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies, for SBS staff, for pastors, or for anyone who hungers to have a better understanding of God's Word.

Prerequisites

Discipleship Training School is required.  The course can be taken before the SBS, but would be more beneficial afterward.

Accreditation

Twelve (12) semester equivalent credits will be earned upon successful completion of the Directed Reading Course. These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program or transferred to other colleges or universities.

Dates, Costs, and Application

The course can be taken at any time, but once begun, needs to be finished within three months to achieve an A grade, or within 6 months to receive a maximum of a B grade.  The cost varies depending on the location and whether the course is done by correspondence or on location.  Here are the three locations to contact if you are interested in the course:
