Discover the passion of Paul in Greece! Spring 2010 - Click here for contact info - (Hoovering over the photos will provide description of location.) The SBOL (Study the Bible On Location) is a 3 1/2 week seminar teaching you a practical Bible study approach, focusing on Paul and visiting key New Testament Locations in Greece.
If you desire a practical and reliable way of studying the Bible, the SBOL offers this in just 3 1/2 weeks! The Bible study method we will teach is called the "inductive approach". Inductive Bible study is all about letting the Bible speak for itself. As we become listeners to the Word of God, we are transformed in our thinking and actions.

Excursions
One of the main features of the SBOL is the excursions to the ancient sites of Athens, Corinth, Thessalonica and Philippi. However, the SBOL isn't a "Paul Trip", going from place to place; we'll be staying in one place for most of the time. The main emphasis is on learning inductive Bible study skills. The excursions are a means to that end.
Schedule Each week will more or less involve the following: - Lectures
- self-study
- Field trip to ancient sites
- Study mentoring by a personal tutor
- Work duties
- Good food, fun & fellowship!
Participation It's open for anyone above 18 (YWAM'ers and non-YWAM'ers; so, a DTS is not required).
Language The seminar wil be bilingual: English and Dutch.
Costs The costs will depend on the accommodations that are available. Our booking is yet to be confirmed, however. The school costs will most likely be around 850 euros.
More info on inductive Bible study How do you allow the Bible to speak for itself and thus transform your thinking and actions? The following basic skill will assist us:
- Prayer. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to gain insight to God's Word.
- Read the entire book, not just a couple of verses or one chapter at a time.
- Examine the Biblical text in order to see what it actually says (observation).
- Then try to find an answer to the question "what did the text mean to the original readers?" So, "what was their situation and how did the Word speak into it?" (interpretation)
- Finally, think about the application of the text for today, for your personal life, and for church and society (application).
These skills will be explained, implemented and applied in different ways throughout this seminar. During the SBOL we will apply the method to the book of Acts and some letters of Paul. The great thing about the inductive approach is that this works with any book of the Bible!
The trips to the ancient sites of Athens, Corinth, Thessalonica and Phlippi will be an important part of the school because they will give insight to the historical back ground of the books studied. Taking into consideration the historical background of the books of the Bible is key in the 4th skill of inductive study.
