 What is the reason for the Field Based School of Biblical Studies? Why would anyone want to study the Bible inductively in this way? Why don't they just do a normal SBS?
These are questions that I have been asked about the Field Based SBS. And the answers are easy. I believe that the reason for the Field Based SBS is that there are so many YWAMer's who want to do an SBS and they aren't able to for a variety of reasons. I, personally, finished the New Testament through the Distance Learning SBS. I, like so many of my fellow YWAMers, had a very full schedule, and it was an impossibility for me to stop what I was doing for 9 months to do an SBS. I had a wonderful tutor, Lyndsey Cuthbert, and with her encouragement I was able to finish the New Testament successfully. Through my studies, I was deeply moved by the reality of the Bible, that it is the living, breathing, Word of God. As a result of how much I was impacted through the Field Based SBS, when Phil Leage asked me to pray about staffing the Field Based SBS, it was an instant “Yes” for me. I wanted other YWAMer's, who were busy like I am, to have the opportunity to study the Bible.
I have been so impressed with the students that we have had so far in the FBSBS. They are busy in ministry, integral to their bases, and yet are producing wonderful work. These are the cream of the crop, they are so determined, and they challenge me with their dedication to their studies. We have students from all over the world, and we could have so many more, if we only had the staff.
That's the challenge I would like to send out to all SBS graduates. If you want to help facilitate other YWAMers in their desire to do an SBS online, then prayerfully consider staffing the FBSBS. It does not take a lot of your time, and you will be blessed as you help others study the Bible, as you have done. I am currently on staff with the SBS in Montana, and staffing the FBSBS has not interfered with my work in Montana.
If you don't think you can staff the FBSBS, then I do ask you to pray for our students. Remember how you felt doing your SBS, well these students are feeling all of that, while still in full time ministry.
